Cuba's prestige brand, created in 1966 as a gift for Fidel Castro. Initially made only for diplomatic gifts. Released commercially in 1982. Produced exclusively at El Laguito by Cuba's most skilled rollers.

1992

Línea 1492 launched: Siglo I–V released

To mark the 500th anniversary of Columbus's arrival in the Americas, Habanos S.A. launches the Línea 1492 range (Siglo I through V) under the Cohiba brand. The Siglo VI is added in 2002 to complete the line.

1982

First commercial release

Cohiba is released commercially for the first time, initially only available in Cuba and through Habanos S.A. export. The brand quickly becomes the global symbol of Cuban premium cigars.

1966

Created for Fidel Castro at El Laguito

Cohiba is created in 1966 as a personal brand for Fidel Castro, made exclusively as diplomatic gifts. The brand is named after the indigenous Taíno word for tobacco. Rollers at El Laguito are Cuba's most skilled.
