Emigrates from Cuba, rebuilds in Honduras

The Plasencia family leaves Cuba following nationalisation of the tobacco industry. They rebuild their operation in Honduras, establishing what becomes one of the most important tobacco-growing families in Central America. They later expand into Nicaragua and Ecuador.

1865

Family tobacco origins in Cuba

The Plasencia family begins growing tobacco in Cuba in 1865. Six generations of tobacco expertise are established before the Cuban revolution forces emigration.
